Outreach Committee
Description
Outreach Committee's mission is to connect Berkeley bioengineers with the greater community and help them improve their scientific communication and collaboration skills. The committee organizes school visits, plans events on Berkeley's campus, and hosts talks online to educate future engineers about the field of bioengineering, empowering them to explore their interests further. The Outreach Committee's audiences range from elementary schoolers to prospective Berkeley students, and members of the committee have a chance to form meaningful connections and grow as communicators and teachers.
In addition, the committee conducts workshops for Berkeley Bioengineering students, helping them develop presentation skills in a personalized, supportive environment. Members of outreach committee have the chance to be engaged in the larger community and proudly represent BioEHS and Berkeley engineering.
For Committee Members
Passionate about teaching, volunteering, and community engagement? Join the Outreach Committee! The Outreach Committee serves as the bridge between Berkeley's Bioengineering Department and the greater community. Our focus is on opening the door to bioengineering for the younger generation, especially those with limited access to its resources and services.
As a member of this committee, you will plan local high school and community college visits as well as lead hands-on activities to spark curiosity and promote pathways in bioengineering to the next generation! Being in this committee, you will also develop, lead, & participate in workshops on topics including presentation skills, and teamwork and communication to empower BioEHS members with the tools they need to bring innovative ideas to larger audiences. By joining the Outreach Committee, you will strengthen your leadership and engagement skills while making a meaningful impact in the bioengineering and broader community!
BioE Day
BioE Day is an event hosted by Bioengineering Honor Society on UC Berkeley campus for high school scholars, especially those of underrepresented communities. Our goal is to present various interesting areas of bioengineering to help students answer the question "What is Bioengineering?"
There will be several fun bioengineering-related hands-on activities, tours of on-campus laboratories, and demos to capture the students' interest, and excite them for participating in BioEHSC™ or BioE in general.
This year, will take place on Saturday December 6th, from 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM . Lunch will be provided. Once we hit capacity, a waitlist will be applied, so make sure to RSVP!
